Air is the most expensive mode we offer, by a wide margin. It earns its cost on a narrow set of consignments and is the wrong answer for most freight, so it is worth being clear about when it is genuinely the right call.
The test is straightforward: does a day of delay cost more than the difference in freight? For a production line stopped for want of a component, or a consignment tied to a contractual delivery date with a penalty attached, it usually does. For stock heading to a warehouse, it does not.
Most freight fails that test, which is why surface and express carry the overwhelming majority of what we move.
Air only pays back over distance. On our Chhattisgarh lanes, road transport already delivers overnight — there is no meaningful time to buy, so air buys nothing.
Where it becomes worth considering is the long haul, particularly Raipur to Delhi, where surface, express and air genuinely separate by days. The current transit time for each mode is published on that route page, taken live from our rate system.
Air freight has stricter restrictions than road, and some goods we can move by surface cannot go by air at all. Hazardous, flammable, pressurised and certain battery-containing items are commonly restricted. Declare the contents accurately when booking — a consignment refused at the airport has lost you both the time and the money you were trying to save.
Our general restrictions are set out in the booking rules; ask the branch before booking if you are unsure whether a particular item can fly.
Air is selected as a service mode during booking, the same as any other, and carries the same tracking and proof of delivery. Pricing is on chargeable weight, and volumetric weight matters more here than anywhere — air pricing is unforgiving about consignments that are bulky relative to their mass.
When the value of arriving sooner exceeds the extra cost, which in practice means long-distance lanes and urgent or high-value goods. On our Chhattisgarh routes road transport already delivers overnight, so air buys no useful time there.
No. Air freight restricts hazardous, flammable, pressurised and certain battery-containing goods more tightly than road. Declare contents accurately at booking and ask the branch if you are unsure, since a consignment refused at the airport loses both time and money.
It depends on the route and the chargeable weight of your consignment. Start a booking to see the exact figure before you confirm, or ask at any branch. Note that volumetric weight matters especially on air.
