Surface is our highest-volume service and, for a lot of freight, the correct choice. Not everything needs to be there tomorrow, and paying express rates for goods that will sit in a warehouse on arrival is just a worse margin.
Surface consignments travel on the same vehicles, are handled by the same staff and carry the same tracking and proof of delivery as express freight. The difference is loading priority: when capacity is tight, express moves first and surface travels on the next scheduled vehicle.
What you do not get is a discount on care. Damage claims trace back to handling and packaging far more often than to service mode, and surface consignments are not handled differently on either count.
Freight is priced on chargeable weight, which is the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is derived from the dimensions you declare.
This catches people out on surface cargo more than anywhere else, because surface attracts exactly the goods where it matters: light, bulky consignments. A carton of packaging material or plastic mouldings may weigh very little and still occupy the space of something far heavier — and that space is what a vehicle actually sells.
We may reweigh and remeasure any consignment. Where our measurement differs from your declaration, ours applies and the difference is billed, so declaring dimensions accurately at booking avoids a surprise later. The figure and the price are both shown before you confirm.
Surface works best on our own Chhattisgarh lanes, where the distances are short enough that the gap between surface and express is often a single day. On Raipur to Delhi that gap widens considerably, so compare the transit times on the route page before deciding.
Past a certain size, a dedicated vehicle beats booking by weight. If you are regularly moving enough to fill a truck, full truck load is usually cheaper per kilogram and travels direct rather than through the hub.

Because volumetric weight exceeded actual weight. A large, light consignment occupies space that would otherwise carry paying freight, so it is charged on the space it uses. Declaring accurate dimensions at booking means no surprise later.
Yes. Every consignment gets a bilty number regardless of service mode, with full status history and proof of delivery on the website.
It depends on the lane. On our shorter Chhattisgarh routes the difference is often a day; on Raipur to Delhi it is larger. Current transit times for both modes are published on each route page.
